It seems to me that our lives (and minds) have become more and more "dumbed down" as the time progresses. When I was in middle school there was no big hurry to learn the basics of math because calculators had just started to take out all the fun. This was not really that long ago (or was it?), and as time creeps forward there is less and less "thinking" and more and more "clicking" - what is this all leading up to?
I got my iPhone the Christmas after they came out, as a gift. I was not really all that impressed with all the technology bells and whistles, in fact, before getting the iPhone I had a RAZR and it did just what I needed - made calls and sent texts. I was in for quite a shock when I first started using the Apple miracle device that is the iPhone - it had so many things that would make my life easier - internet right on the handset, "conversational texts" so I no longer had to go through all of them to figure out what I was talking about with who, and of course little "apps" that would change my life forever.
Remember the commercials, "there's an app for that", well it turns out there really is - for everything! These commercial might still be running but I have no idea because I no longer watch traditional television - I can watch whatever I want commercial free on my iphone though YouTube and the Netflix app (which I also stream to my television set). You can get games, time and money saving advice, tickets to shows, travel plans, sex - everything - without even putting your app device down. This of couse includes devices that use Ovi, Android, and other services but it is most prevalent with Apple devices such as the iPod, iPhone, and Ipad. What we are looking at in the future is a whole new iLife - and it excites and scares me.
So, I am left to wonder "what's next" when it comes to all of these apps. They keep our hands and our minds occupied constantly - our phones have become almost a literal extension of our own hands and are taking up more time then ever. I have not even begun to think about the privacy issues that could come with all of our personal information floating around in thin air, I suppose that is for another blog, but the scariest part is how they are taking over, one app at a time.
