No longer will you be forced to take your love of Apple to the AT&T network. The rumors are flying, and on February 10, 2011 (ironically my birthday) Verizon will finally bring the iPhone 4 to the network. (If you aren't very patient you can sign up for pre-order on February 3, 2011) This is a very long awaited move by Verizon. The 16 GB is going for $199.99 and the 32 GB will be going at $299.99 (of course that is with a NEW 2 year contract, which I am sure none of us have). The phone will be able to serve as a hot spot for other wireless devices, up to five of them to be exact. There will of course be another fee for this premium service as well. It looks like it is going to be around $20 extra a month to use that service.
Good news for those of you in line for your new every 2, you will be able to apply your credit towards this purchase. (Though this may be the last time.) The Verizon iPhone 4 will not support the Verizon's 4G LTE network. Included on the iPhone are the 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, the front-facing VGA camera, Bluetooth, a digital compass, Retina Display, e-mail, voice control, assisted GPS and Google Maps, the Safari browser, access to apps and iTunes, and FaceTime over Wi-Fi. The Verizon iPhone will offer iOS 4.2.5 over the iOS 4.2.1 that's currently on the AT&T handset.
As far as we know for now the unlimited data plan will be available for your iPhone, but it looks as though a billing plan based on usage is coming your way! (That is a scary thought, my phone bill already seems to be high enough!) This will go away when your contract ends, and you will be charged with the new purchase you make. I think this is also where they are eliminating their famous new every two update. Savor your next update because it will be your last before you are offered that discounted rate. This serves as a slap in the face to those of us who have been with Verizon for over 10 years, where are the perks of being a long term loyal customer? If you ask me the whole presentation of the iPhone seems like a big dropping of the ball. I truly enjoy my Android and don't plan on switching systems, but maybe had the offers for the Apple phone seemed more appealing I would have changed my mind. Yes Verizon, you will gain a lot of customers (analysts are estimation over 10 million) but in the mean time, how many loyal users will you lose on existing plans?
The company is also changing its return policy from 30 days to 14 so buyer beware!
A third party will also be brought into the equation to offer new trade-in programs that will allow customers to turn in phones early and get credit toward a new phone. At least I have some hope to cling to.
